The new Nexus 5 to be made by Motorola


Google owned Motorola is said to make the new Nexus 5 smartphone after the current Nexus 4 which was manufactured by LG.

The rumor suggests that the Nexus 5 could launch in Q4 2013, and Google may be ditching LG for Motorola.

According to Taylor Wimberly, the former editor for Android and Me who snagged a photo of the Moto X before it debuted earlier this month. This is believed to be true as we expect Motorola to make an announcement for the new Nexus device in late fall.

Android 4.3 update for the Google Play Edition Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One



The Google Play Edition Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One get a Android 4.3 update justr 9 days after the official announcement of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The over-the-air update will be available on both the devices at 185.5MB for the HTC One Google Play Edition and a 150MB update for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition update will only be available over wifi network until August 3rd 2013.

We already see the update first on the Nexus devices and now it has come to the HTC One Google Play Edition and Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition.

The Android 4.3 update features Bluetooth tethering on the Samsung Galaxy S4 and a IR port on the HTC One.

Blackberry Z10 to be available in the Porsche design

We all remember the BlackBerry Porsche Design P'9981. However we now lucky to see the Porsche Design moving to the Blackberry Z10. Some new leaked photos today show a new version of the BlackBerry Z10, which bears the same unmistakable design traits.

 

 


Rumored to be called the P'9982, the Porsche Design device looks much like a Z10 with some added elements around the top, bottom and sides. The back cover takes on a totally different look and texture as well. The device is said also to be sporting a different UI, but whether it's more than just a skin (as was the case with the P'9981) we have yet to know.

Samsung allegedly working on new tablet display sizes

Samsung is known for cranking out mobile devices that come in all kinds of screen sizes. Just looking at its range of tablets, the company's got models that come in at 7 inches, 7.7 inches, 8 inches and 10.1 inches. A new report claims that that list will soon be getting even longer, as it's said that Samsung is prepping a new slate with a 12.2-inch display.



The Samsung SM-P900 is said to feature a 12.2-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. A leaked user agent profile had earlier suggested a mysterious device with a similar resolution, so SM-P900 could well be a device in the making.

Additionally, the screen size has also been spotted on the Indian shipping website Zauba, which comes with the model number “SM-P905″ (could well be a cellular enabled variant of the SM-P900). The 12-2-inch tablet is also rumored to feature an Exynos 5 Octa processor along with S-Pen support.

Samsung has released quite a few new tablets in recent months, including the Galaxy Note 8.0 and the Galaxy Tab 3 family. Unfortunately for consumers that are after a high-end tablet, none of those recently-launched models are exactly bleeding edge. These SM-P900 and SMP-600 models sound like they could be pretty high-performance hardware, though, and I'm sure that many folks would be glad to see new Samsung tablets with the same 2560x1600 screen resolution as the Nexus 10.

There's no word on when either the SM-P900 or SM-P600 might be introduced. However, it's possible that we could see at least one at IFA in early September, which is an event that Samsung has used to unveil new mobile hardware in the past.

Samsung is also said to be working on a 10-inch tablet with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, according to evleaks. The slate is obviously targeted at users who would prefer a slate with a smaller display, while maintaining the high resolution. The SM-P600 is reported to be powered by Snapdragon 800 processor to provide enhanced user experience.

The existence of the 10-inch tablet is again confirmed by user agent profile, which also suggests that the upcoming slate would run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Unfortunately, there is no official word on either the SM-P900 or SM-P600 at the moment. However, Samsung might announce the tablets along with the Galaxy Note III on September 4 in Berlin or during the IFA 2013 exhibition.

BlackBerry 9720 leaks

BlackBerry recently announced that the company will be coming up with a new BlackBerry 7 smartphone. The handset carrying the now obsolete platform is targeted at consumers in the emerging markets and we now have a press render showing what it looks like.



The BlackBerry 9720 Samoa has been leaked, courtesy of evleaks. The image confirms that the phone packs a QWERTY keypad and an optical trackpad with send, menu, end and back keys alongside it.
It looks like the BlackBerry 9720 will come out with few dedicated buttons placed on the sides of the smartphone. The upcoming BB 7 device is rumored to sport a 480 x 360 pixel display, but info on its other specs is scarce at the moment.

Unfortunately, there is no word on the launch date of the smartphone, but with the press renders ready, we expect it to happen pretty soon enough.

6" Nokia Lumia phablet front panel pictured

We've heard rumors of a phablet in the works from Nokia for a while now. Back in May we even saw a (blurry) glimpse of what appeared to be a large-screened Nokia device, expected to see the light of day as the Lumia 1030.
This latest leak which supposedly comes from a factory floor in China brings the phablet one step closer to reality. It measures 6-inches in diagonal and is supposedly already being mass-produced by Nokia.
As you can tell from the image, it has a very thin bezel and looks to also feature a slot for a front-facing camera. Unfortunately there's nothing else that we can make out from it and the source didn't provide any additional specs either.
It's possible Nokia may be readying this device for the anticipated Windows Phone GDR3 update. The new release is set to start seeding by the end of the year and will add support for 1080p resolution to the Windows Phone 8 platform as well as an additional column of tiles - perfect for larger, phablet-esque displays.

Sony announces Android 4.3 update whitelist

Sony has just published the list of devices that will be getting the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update that was announced yesterday. On the smartphone side, the company will be bringing the latest Jelly Bean version to the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia SP and Xperia Z Ultra. The only tablet that is confirmed to get treated to the latest Android release at this point is the Xperia Tablet Z.
Sony is currently seeding the Jelly Bean 4.2 update for the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL. Starting from early August, the Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z will get Android 4.2 as well.
Some older Xperia phones running Android 4.1 are still under examination. There's a possibility that at least some of them will be updated straight to Android 4.3, but no names have been confirmed yet.
Additionally, Sony acknowledges that its updates haven't been "as succinct or as timely as you might’ve expected." The company's developers have now changed their workflow to assure that future updates arrive faster. Get Android 4.3 on your Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 today

Google officially announced the latest version of Android operating system, 4.3, at its event today. The newest version of Android is a minor upgrade over the currently present Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS and brings restricted profiles, a few other minor features along with a bunch of performance enhancements.
As one can expect, the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS will be first available on Samsung Galaxy Nexus,Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. What might come as a slightly surprise is that you won't even have to wait a day - the update will start rolling today.
After the roll-out to the Nexus line-up, the latest Android release will be seeded to the Google Play Editions of Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One. We got no time frame for that, but we were promised it will be happening soon.

New Nexus 7 coming with WUXGA screen, quad-core Krait CPU

The Google event brought the new Nexus 7 2. It's a 7" tablet running pure Android 4.3 and improves the screen and chipset over the first generation Nexus tablet. The base price is set at $230, a little higher than the $200 that the first Nexus 7 costs (both prices are for the respective 16GB model).
So, what do you get for the extra $30? A 1920 x 1200 screen with 320ppi pixel density (50% more than the first Nexus 7 and more than even the Nexus 10) for one. It's the highest resolution 7" display on a tablet. The screen also promises a 30% wider color gamut.
You also get the chipset from the Nexus 4 – Snapdragon S4 Pro with quad-core Krait processor at 1.5GHz, 2GB RAM and Adreno 320, a sizable update over the Tegra 3 chipset.
While the display size was kept the same, the new Nexus 7 is smaller. Google and Asus shaved off 1.8mm off the thickness, 2.8mm of the bezels on either sides and reduced the weight by 50g. Google kept well-liked the soft touch back.


There's also a back-facing camera – a 5MP shooter that can also record 1080p video joins the 1.2MP front-facing camera of the first Nexus 7. Other changes include an LED notification light on the front and SlimPort, which means you can get HD video out of the microUSB port.
Other connectivity features are dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 (Android 4.3 adds native support for 4.0 + LE) and NFC. Wireless charging is also supported.
Google announced the Wi-Fi and 4G LTE models of the Nexus 7 from the get go this time around. One device will be able to use 4G from AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, no different versions required.
For storage, there's 16GB for the base model, $230, and 32GB for $270. Those prices are for the Wi-Fi only model, the 4G LTE model comes in 32GB only and costs $350.
The Nexus 7 2 will be available starting Tuesday (July 30) through the Google Play store and a number of retailers including Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart, Staples, Amazon.com.
In the coming weeks, Google will expand availability for the Nexus 7 2 to Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Australia, Japan and South Korea.

Pictures and video of BlackBerry A10

The BlackBerry A10 is a bigger screen replacement of the current Z10 flagship. Specs that leaked earlier this month tell us it will pack a 5" AMOLED display with 720p resolution and a dual-core Krait processor at 1.7GHz (up from 1.5GHz, but it's the same chipset). The battery has seen a massive 1,000mAh bump to 2,800mAh, but other than that it's mostly the same as the Z10.

A new video (again from Taiwan) plus a whole bunch of photos give a quick hardware tour of a working BlackBerry A10. As can be expected, it's taller and wider than a Z10 (which has a 4.2" screen). The back panel seems to made of Motorola RAZR-like Kevlar material and is removable.
While the battery is not accessible, there are some helpful labels under there, which confirm the specs from the leaked slide. The A10 is 9.4mm thick, a hair thicker than the Z10, and has a metal frame under the back cover.

The BlackBerry A10 was running BB OS 10.2, but there are no immediately noticeable changes to the UI over 10.1. The unit bears an AT&T logo on its back.



Unfortunately, there's still no info on when the BlackBerry A10 will launch.

Nokia Lumia 625 promo video is out, gives you a 1-minute tour of its key selling points

The Nokia Lumia 625 aims to bring a big screen and LTE connectivity on the cheap this September. The phone packs a 4.7″ WVGA screen (201ppi) with Nokia’s color profile and super sensitivity goodies, plus a 5MP / 1080p camera that features the Smart Camera app.
The first promo video focuses on these things and more.
Nokia went all out with the Lumia 625 and the €220 handset (before taxes and subsidies) has a lot going for it – a large screen to watch videos on, Dolby surround sound headphone playback, playing games on the dual-core Krait processor, shooting creative photos with Smart Camera and using the free HERE Drive navigation.



Screen resolution aside, it sounds pretty sweet – it’s a lot more capable than entry-level Android phones.

A 20% faster Exynos 5 Octa 5420, and to be in the Galaxy Note 3

Following the teaser last week, Samsung has finally unveiled the new Exynos 5 Octa chip and shared some more details about it.
The new Exynos 5 Octa 5420, which is likely to power the Samsung Galaxy Note III, is retaining its ARM big.LITTLE architecture with four Cortex A15 and Cortex A7 cores. Thanks to a boost in the clock speeds of both quartets of CPU cores, the new Exynos 5 Octa packs 20% more punch than its predecessor. The quad Cortex A15 now run at up to 1.8GHz, as opposed to 1.6GHz in the 5410 version, while the Cortex A7 can now operate at 1.3GHz, compared to 1.2GHz in the previous version.
Samsung has opted out of using Imagination's PowerVRSGX544MP3 graphics of its new gen Octa chip and has decided to use the 6-core ARM Mali-T628 MP6. The memory is updated as well and while its the same dual-channel 32-bit LPDDR configuration it can now support up to 1866MHz clock speed. This results in a maximum bandwidth of 14.9Gbps.
As a result of this boost in the memory, the new Exynos 5 Octa comes with full HD Wi-Fi display support. As with any new generation chip, Samsung has made improvements in the energy department and the 5420 chip is more efficient when used on high-resolution display devices, improving battery life.
Samsung says the Exynos 5 Octa 5420 is now sampling and will enter mass production in August. That means the chipset will be ready just in time for the Galaxy Note III announcement, which should happen on September 4.

More pictures of the 20MP Sony Xperia Honami

With alleged press shots, headlining 20MP camera and purported specifications now out in the wild, the Sony Xperia Honami has been leaked yet again in a bunch of a live photos. Those look to be the real deal, aligning nicely with previous live shots.
Anyway, the Xperia Honami has kept a lot of the charm of the Xperia Z it is said to succeed at the company's smartphone flagship throne. With a glass covered back and sharp edges all around, it's definitely a looker. The photos confirm the large loudspeaker grill, that is a slight departure from the current OmniBalance design.
Furthermore, the dedicated camera key on the right hand side underlines the cameraphone status of the smartphone. It's said to be a 20 megapixel Exmor RS unit, which will feature the Sony G-lens and BIONZ image processor, but its sensor will measure 1/2.3" rather than the previously rumored 1/1.6".
According to the person, who took the photos, the camera software isn't close to its final version. Since the resolution settings in the camera app were missing, too, he couldn't confirm if the phone packs a 20MP camera.
The specs sheet goes on with a flagship-worthy 5" 1080p display, 2.2GHz quad-core Krait 400 CPU and 2GB of RAM on a Snapdragon 800 chipset. The battery, while still non-removable, will be bumped to 3,000mAh, from the 2,330mAh on the Xperia Z.
Just like the Xperia Z, the Sony Xperia Honami is said to be IP57 certified, which it is completely dust-protected and will withstand a meter of water for 30 minutes.
Sony is expected to announce the Xperia Honami at a dedicated press event on September 4 in Berlin.

Nokia Lumia 625 leaks in full ahead of its launch

Nokia teased a big announcement earlier today, that is expected to happen tomorrow morning. As luck would have it, we didn't even have to wait the whole long day to find out as the star of the show just leaked. The WP8 Lumia 625 smartphone photos and full specs sheet appeared and the color of the smartphone perfectly matches the teaser image.
Update: press images of the Nokia Lumia 625 made the rounds on the web as well. The photos showcase the smartphone in five different colors.
 
The Nokia Lumia 625 sports a 4.7-inch LCD display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and a density of 201ppi. The screen is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and features super sensitive touch technology, which allows you to operate it using nails and gloves.
Nokia Lumia 625 is powered by a Snapdragon S4 chipset with a 1.2 GHz dual-core Krait CPU and 512 MB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 8 GB of internal memory, but there's also a microSD card for expanding that by up to 64 GB. The Lumia 625 measures 133.25 x 72.25 x 9.15 mm and weighs 159g and is pretty much the same size of the recently launched Lumia 1020.
At the back of Nokia Lumia 625 is a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, which is capable of shooting 1080p videos at 30fps. The camera comes with the cool Cinemagraph, Panorama, Smart Camera lens apps preinstalled.
The connectivity options for the mid-range Lumia 625 include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS and GLONASS support as well as Bluetooth 4.0. The smartphone also supports a wide range of networks including quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, HSPA and even LTE.
Nokia Lumia 625 will be powered by Windows Phone 8 and has a 2,000mAh battery. According to Nokia, the smartphone lasts up to 23 days on stand by and provides talk time up to 23.9 hours. The battery is said to provide enough juice for video play back up to 6.8 hours and music playback time up to 90 hours.
Lastly, the Lumia 625 comes with the usual set of pre-installed Nokia applications like Here Drive Beta, Here Maps, Here Transit and Nokia Music. The smartphone will be available in Orange, bright green, yellow, white and black color options.
We will know more about the pricing and the availability details of the Lumia 625, when the smartphone gets officially announced tomorrow.

Analyst: Apple iPhone sales to hit 62 million in Q4

Apple will be reporting its second-quarters results on Tuesday and the Cupertino giants are predicted to have sold 26 million units, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster.


The analyst also estimates the iPhone sales to be just 24 million for the third-quarter, which is less than the 26.9 million sold over the Q3, 2013. Surprisingly, that number also includes the sales of the upcoming iPhone 5S, which will probably hit the shelves before the next quarter runs out.
However, the Apple iPhone sales are expected to get a huge boost by the much-anticipated budget iPhone, during the holiday season. According to the analyst, Apple might sell 62 million iPhones during the fourth quarter with the budget iPhone accounting for no less than 12 million units.
Wall Street also expects Apple to reach the 50 million mark in the last quarter, but the general consensus is significantly lower than Gene Munster's predicitions.

Samsung Galaxy S III spotted running Android 4.3

According to leaked information from Samsung R&D in India, Samsung is simultaneously developing Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and 4.3.0 updates, and the former could be dropped altogether if Jelly Bean 4.3 is officially announced this week by Google.
These rumors from last week garnered a whole lot more credibility thanks to the provided leaked image which allegedly shows a Galaxy S III running on a 4.3.0 Jelly Bean test build.


Word is that development of the 4.3.0 update is also underway for the Galaxy S4 flagship, as well as another yet unannounced device, possibly the Galaxy Note 3.
It's still unknown what kind of features the 4.3 Jelly Bean update will to bring - or when, for that matter - but if the above leak is any indication, the announcement is imminent!
Update: Seeing as how the kernel version and build date in the image are the same as those found on Android 4.1, then either the software is not finalized, or the build.prop has been tweaked to show a different Android version.

Galaxy S4 with Snapdragon 800 appears in AnTuTu tests again

Not content with just two versions of its Galaxy S4 flagship (Active, mini, zoom aside), Samsung created a third version - a South Korea-exclusive S4 with Snapdragon 800. We’re getting more and more indications that there will be an international version of that phone.
First there were some pretty impressive AnTuTu benchmark scores, now there are screenshots from another AnTuTu run. The total score is lower than the previous leak, lower than even the Korean Galaxy S4 LTE-A benchmarks.

The GPU score is close to the 9000+ points Adreno 330 usually scores - high above the 5000+ of Adreno 320 and above even the 8000+ of PowerVR SGX 544MP3 in the Exynos 5 Octa version.
Anyway, the screenshots confirm the I9506 model number, 2.3GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU. Those are all the ingredients of a Snapdragon 800 chipset, which has LTE-Advanced (Cat. 4) connectivity or 150Mbps downlink speed.

The phone was running Android 4.2.2, same as the current Galaxy S4. The software is most likely unfinished, which explains the inconsistent scores.
Unfortunately, all the rumors so far have failed to deliver a believable announcement date - the upcoming IFA event is a possible target, but historically it’s when Samsung announces the Galaxy Note.

Galaxy Note II to skip Android 4.2.2 and go straight for 4.3

Australian carrier Telstra has received a confirmation that the Samsung Galaxy Note II 4G model will skip Android 4.2.2 and will be updated straight to the 4.3 Jelly Bean. It doesn't seem to be a regional thing either - all Galaxy Note II units might be treated that way.

Here is the official quote from Telstra's support page:

Samsung have elected globally to skip the 4.2.2 update for this device and will instead go to a newer version of Android. No schedule has been provided for this update.



We already know that Samsung Galaxy Note II will live long enough to taste the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, so owners shouldn't worry about the Android updates.

Meanwhile, Samsung still manages to keep the upcoming Galaxy Note III under wraps, but a picture taken with it popped up in Picasa yesterday. It hardly gives us much info, but it does confirm the device model number - N9005. This will most probably going to be the Snapdragon 800 version of the phablet with the revamped Exynos 5 powering the N9000 version.



The Note III will be announced on September 4 ahead of IFA in Berlin. It's expected to bring 5.7" 1080p Super AMOLED display and 3GB of RAM.

Google Play Books and All Access Music expand to 13 new countries

Google is finally taking the conquest of Europe more serious and has expanded the availability of its Play Books and All Access Music services to 13 new countries.
The latest ones to get access to to the Books and Music part of the Google Play Store are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Sweden. Users in those countries now have access to millions of books and songs in the newly redesigned Play Store, which was launched a few days ago.
The newly added 13 countries now join Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Spain, Russia, United Kingdom and the United States to make a total of 27 countries that have access to the Google Play Store Books. Google Play Music is currently available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, United States, and United Kingdom, in addition to the aforementioned list of countries.
Here’s hoping that Google continues to expand its presence in more and more countries.

Motorola X press image and specifications leak

We are inching closer to the official launch of the Motorola X, slated to happen on August 1. Naturally, then, a few leaks are par for the course and we have not one but two today, in the form of a leaked press image as well as leaked specifications.
The first one comes courtesy TheUnlockr and gives us a first proper look at the device. The X is a bit of a departure from Motorola's recent designs, wherein it adopts a lot more curvaceous and understated design instead of sharp lines and more radical materials such as Kevlar for the back. The front looks very similar to the Galaxy Nexus or the Nexus 4 with it's focus on minimalism and display-centric design.
The back looks similarly sober, with a hump running vertically in the middle of the phone and a camera lens, flash and loudspeaker nestled together near the top above the Motorola logo. The back has a simple dotted pattern but from what we've heard so far you'd have the option to customize it.
Moving over to the specifications, this time courtesy Android Police, we have a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960DT, with a 1.7GHz dual-core CPU and Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 4.7-inch, 1280 x 720 resolution display, 10.5 megapixel rear camera, 2.1 megapixel front camera, 16GB internal memory (12GB user accessible) and Android 4.2.2.
The device has been taken through a couple of benchmarks. The AnTuTu score stands at around 18-19k and 7100 in 3DMark Ice Storm Extreme tests. The scores are impressive, perhaps a bit too impressive. It's curious how the X manages to score higher than the Nexus 4 (approximately 14k and 5.8k, respectively) despite having two few CPU cores and identical GPU (Nexus 4 only has a slightly higher resolution display). Regardless of that, for what will supposedly be a mid-range device, the specs of the Motorola X are quite impressive.
This is all we know for now but with August 1 fast approaching, we wouldn't have to wait too long to find out more.
